Some Things About Us
My husband went to work for a heavy duty construction
equipment manufacturing company in the Chicagoland area right out of high
school. He started in the tool department. After a year there
he joined the air force for 4 years, then went back to work for the same
company where he stayed and moved up the ladder into a Sr. Manufacturing
Engineer position until the company folded in 1979-80. He had
been 23 years with that company. We then moved to the St. Louis area
where his position was Sr. Manufacturing Engineer in the aerospace area.
He worked for Emerson Electric and a spinoff of EE (ESCO) for another 13
years. Then that company started nosediving, and he began contracting
out to McDonnel Douglas, Raytheon, Boeing (here and in Iowa and Wichita,
KS.
ME.... I was raised on a large dairy farm in Wisconsin.
I was involved in many phases of "running the farms". I was involved
in many sport activities, music in school, choir in church, held office
as President of the 4-H Club in our area. My first career interest
was in music... while in high school north of Green Bay, Wis., my sister
and I had our own radio show, she was a freshman, I a sophomore.
We later moved to Chicago for jobs (we both worked at a life insurance
company) and appeared on the WLS National Barndance there several times.
I later married, raised two boys, sold Avon products, formed a band which
performed in the Chicagoland area, southern Wisconsin, and western
Indiana for 12 - 13 yrs., while working for another insurance company.
I then was promoted to assistant to the the General Attorney for the legal
department there. A few years later I took a position with a law
firm in downtown Chicago for several years, divorced my first husband,
met and married my present hubby, moved to STL area, where I also worked
for the senior partner of a law firm. When my my husband's two boys
who we had custody of struck out on their own, we decided to get a dog.
That lead me to studying which breed would be best for us. We decided
on the Chow Chow, and we were not wrong. We are totally addicted
to the breed. We later moved further out to the country to 6 acres
and built a show kennel. We put in a big veggie garden, lots
of fruit trees and lots of other trees. When we bought here, we bought
a field that only had tall dead grass and weeds. So we have
been busy... and still stay busy. We are what I guess you call 'semi
retired'. Only it seems we have never worked as hard as we are now!!!!
My hubby still works full time... only stocking the pet food
shelves at Wal-Mart! The health insurance benefits sure help,
and so do the extra $$, as it costs a lot to take care of our Chows!!!
We are strictly hobby/show breeders/exhibitors.
We breed for ourselves, so to speak. When we need another show puppy,
that is when we do a breeding. We put a lot of effort, research,
and $$ into doing a good breeding. We do not breed Chows pups for
a living such as puppymillers do. There are those type that claim
to be show breeders, but are actually subsidizing their habits by producing
puppies ... so please call the AKC and ask them for a Chow breeder referral
representative. Check out several breeders before making a decision
on purchasing a puppy. Furthermore, it is not ethical thing for a
"show breeder" to be producing several litters a year. And the back
yard breeders mindset is that they want to make back the $$ they spent
on their pups/dogs. They haven't any knowledge as to what they are
doing either. If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to
